Organic Food Week

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment organized the “Week of Organic Food” from the 22nd to the 27th of September in order to raise awareness among the general population of the variety and high quality of these products; to promote their consumption, their importance in a balanced and varied diet, and the positive impact their production has on the environment. The initiative includes an extensive program of activities under the theme “Organic food. Live it”, and it is aimed at professionals in hospitality and catering, students, end consumers, the distribution sector and the media.

Over 35% of Spaniards consume organic products

Organic food has been setting trends in Europe and the US for several years.

In Spain, according to the quarterly survey of the Barometer AECOC Shopper View, more than 35% of Spanish shoppers include organic products in their shopping cart.

According Ecovalia (Association of Ecological value), the consumption of such products increased 7% from 2011 to 2013, converting this category of products into an upward trend.

Of the buyers of organic products, 71% state that the whole family consumes them.
